Slipp new head coach at Waterloo

The Slipp family coaching dynasty continues.
Tyler Slipp, the son of former University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds coach Joyce Slipp, has been named the new head coach of the Waterloo Warriors women's basketball team of the Ontario Universities Association.
Slipp, a former assistant with his mother's program - his father Dick was also an assistant - spent last season as an assistant coach to Bruce Langford at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C.
He takes over the Warriors from 27-year-old Christen Dickenson, who was fired after one season despite leading the Warriors to a 12-10 record and a fourth-place finish in the OUA.
"I'm tremendously honoured and excited to be named the head coach of the University of Waterloo women's basketball program," Slipp said in a press release announcing his appointment. "I can't wait to get my feet wet as a CIS coach and make my mark on the Warrior program."
Slipp, who graduated from UNB with a bachelor's degree in computer science, was an assistant on Joyce Slipp's staff for three years, from 2002-05. He's a certified Level 3 coach under the National Coaching Certification Program and has also coached in the Basketball New Brunswick Under 15 program.
"I'm pleased to have Tyler Slipp come on board with the Warriors," said athletic director Judy McCrae in the release. "Tyler is a young and exciting coach. He is a student of the game and has a philosophy of developing people and basketball talent. For the past five years he has been an assistant coach under great coaches and now brings this experience to Waterloo."
