Blues post tie, win against rugby Lions
Oromocto High School Blues earned a win and a tie in Western Division AAA varsity rugby action Wednesday. The Blues boys AAA team battled Leo Hayes Lions to a 5-5 tie as David Januszkiewics of the Blues and Jake Thomas of the Lions traded tries.
In the girls game, player of the match Patty Hoyt had three tries and Marissa Walcott, Ariel Jones and Alison Januszkiewics each had single five-pointers, while Natalie White dropped a two-point convert in a 27-15 women's win over the Lions. Natasha Canning had all three tries for the Lions, who host the Blues in a doubleheader Saturday at Leo Hayes field. Game times are 1 p.m. for the girls match and 2:30 for the boys kickoff.
Foxes host orienteering meet Sunday at Odell
A busy season of orienteering begins Sunday with Fredericton's hosting of the Odell Park Spike 'em Orienteering score event.
Registration will be at the Odell Park lodge between 12-12:30 p.m., with short, informal instruction available for beginners at that time. There is a mass start at 1 p.m. The time limit for the event is 90 minutes.
Cost is $10 for adults, $8 for contestants 19 years and under, with a maximum charge of $36 per family.
Information on the event and cost of obtaining a membership can be obtained by calling David Tree at 454-6202 in the evening or by sending an e-mail to tree@unb.ca.
Orienteering New Brunswick is hosting the Canadian orienteering championships in August, with a course incorporating a sprint race at the bottom of the sea, at low tide at the Hopewell Rocks. Registration Sunday for roller hockey
The Fredericton Roller Hockey League (FRHL) is gearing up for the 2008 summer season.
The league is open to all interested players 19 years of age and older. Registration is being held 7:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the York Arena.

FHS girls top seed for volleyball provincials
The Fredericton High School Lady Black Kats will be the number one seed from the South-West region going into NBIAA provincial championships, May 16-17 at Simonds High School in Saint John.
FHS went undefeated in pool B round-robin play with a 3-0 record defeating all opponents in straight sets. Saint John High placed second, OHS third and Simonds fourth.
In Pool A, Sussex was the top team with a 3-0 record, followed by Kennebecasis Valley in second, Leo Hayes High School and Cite des Jeunes fourth.
FHS defeated Sussex in straight sets (25-10, 25-19) to earn the top seed. Sussex will be the second seed, followed by Saint John High third, KV fourth and LHHS fifth.
Sr. floor shuffleboard winners for Thursday
Winners were Ed Corey, Paulette Johnston, John Toon, Kathy Bailey, Cedric Marr, Aulda Yerxa, Larry Coy, Dolly Tomilson and Len Desormeau.
