Compostable Slushy Container

Published Friday April 25th, 2008

Just as a follow up to my last post about the "spudware" made out of potatoes- my husband and I were in Maine last weekend, and I got a slushy at a convenience store before crossing back into Canada. I noticed that the "plastic" container was completely compostable- made from corn. Wow- you really couldn't tell. It looked like your typical clear flexible plastic cup with an attachable dome lid. I meant to bring it back with me, and see if I were to put it in water or outside in the dirt, how long it would take for it to break down, but silly me, I threw it out. Well, at least it will break down someday in the landfill.

I'm wondering though- do we have these in Canada? I'm going to go on an extensive slushy hunt now to find out...
