May's Day
Now that the Greens are in the leader's debate one still has to wonder what the criteria is for allowing a party leader into the debate.
"Traditionally, the consortium of Canada's largest English and French television networks — CBC/Radio-Canada, CTV, Global Television and TVA — has decided which party leaders would participate in the debates," according to CBC.
Am I alone here that it should be a little more clear than bigwigs from competing TV stations deciding? Number of seats, number of ridings the party is in, number of votes received last election, something that at least makes some sense and isn't at the whim of media?

I have a copy of the it on my wall and whenever I see it is being neglected I wonder where this country is heading.
What we need in Canada is more Participatory Democracy and stand up for the rights of others even though we may not agree with their message, as long as it does not effect the rights of others.
We have to hold our elected governments,at all levels, including the media, who say they stand up for freedom of speech accountable. Thank you for your question, I ask it myself a lot of times.

But the reasons for leaving the Greens out were vague and didn't make a lot of sense. The polls have them with as much national support as the BQ who ARE part of the "National" debate. A Party that runs candidates in only one province and exists only to rip Canada apart. The TV consortium clearly has too much power on this one and clear rules are required. Might even give fledging parties something to aspire to if they knew what they had to aspire to.
