117 GOD’S WORD

117 GOD’S WORD

Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The bible says that God’s word became flesh and dwelt among us. Everyone knows that this was Jesus and that Jesus was God’s son so, how could He be God’s word too.

The words that we speak define us; the phrases that we use to describe things, the emotions that we put into words and even what we don’t say will tell people about our inner most thoughts and personality.

For every situation, action or circumstance there is over a hundred things that we could say and there are a number of ways that we could say it.

We could give praise with sarcasm or with genuine good feelings, we could give a kind word to someone in need and then walk away without physically helping them or we could ignore a sad situation in someone else’s life; passing it off with “Well, they deserved that.”

You see the bible also says that what is in our hearts will come out our mouths; we will speak in such a way as to reveal the true intent of our heart. People can see whether we are genuine or not just by watching us when we think that they are not but it is easier and faster to tell what we are like by talking to us for a while.

Most people are so eager to share themselves with us that they talk about themselves and fail to listen to you so they don’t really get to know you. Because this is widespread, we think that we can hide our true nature so no one can see it. [Then we open our mouths and show it to everyone.]

God sent His son to us to show Himself to us. God only speaks the truth so every word that comes out of His mouth is completely true in every form and fashion that there is.

Jesus, His son, also only speaks the truth, just like God. [I believe we call someone who looks exactly like someone else, the ‘spitting’ image of that person.]

However, Jesus not only spoke the truth, just like His Father, but He acted just like His Father. They are the ‘spitting’ image of each other; when you see one, you can tell what the other will look and be like because of the similarity.

Just like you and me, God’s word reveals His inner most thoughts and personality to all those that are looking and know what and how to understand what they are looking at. Because we can compare God’s word to Jesus’ life we can ‘see’ God.

You cannot be separated from your words because they are your words. Even though someone else spoke the same words at one time or another, you spoke them when you did and in the situation that you did for the people present to hear. That’s pretty specific and unique to you.

God is the only one of His kind, so His word is pretty unique. Jesus is also the only one of His kind; God’s son, but He has no personality of His own. He chose to have a personality that looks exactly like His father’s.

God has called us to be His children but He doesn’t want us all to be different; He wants us all to be the same, just exactly like Him and we can do this by being like His word, being just like Jesus and doing just like He tells us to be, so that we can look, act and be just like Him. Then, when someone looks at you, they will be able to see God.

Thanks for these words of guidance and encouragement. If only I could take them to heart and apply them when life gets difficult.

In the beginning there was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And this Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. And they called him Emmanual which means "God is with us". This Jesus, this Emmanual is God with us. No one but God could redeem man from his fallen state and so by the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary and became man. Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, one in Being with the Father... This Jesus fully God and fully man. And as man He paid the ransom and in God His sacrifice was found acceptable and man was redeemed.
This is our loving and redeeming God. A God who would stoop and take upon himself our human nature. A personal God who does not live apart from us and who knows our human nature, as He who took human nature upon Himself. A God who knows our longing as He who once longed, who knows our pain as He who felt pain, who knows death as He who died for our sin.

Hi Rudy
I know how you feel; I did not always believe this way. When I found Jesus and accepted Him and His help, I was pretty rough around the edges. I was continually reverting back to my old ways when trouble came my way. I finally realized that I couldn't do it on my own and had to ask God for help.
That's what He was waiting for. [He respects us as individuals and will not force Himself on anyone.] I learned that He wants us to ask for help every time that we can't do it ourselves; He takes great pleasure in helping us because He loves us and wants us to be strengthened.

Thanks Wally
I don't think that I can add anything to that; keep up the good work.

We have these two natures that give rise to the inherent conflict within a man. St. Pauls discourse "I know what I want to do but I do that which I do not want.." speaks to this.
God in His wisdom gives us the gift of our human nature. Our bodies of dust infused with the breath of God, our soul. Man being both body with soul is inherently divided. And it is this inner division that we sense, that Saint Paul describes.
Our body made from the things of this earth longs for the things of this earth as our soul yearns to return back to the Love that created it.
Be kind to yourselves in acknowedging this creation of God which is you and BE all that you are! To reject the gift of our body or the gift of the soul is not our calling. Within this broader acknowledgement of ourselves we find reason for the grace of God. His loving concern and action in our lives is enriched by it, such is His will for His creature man.

Hi Wally
Sorry to be so late; I've been busy.
You're right again; our human nature wants to find itself in the flesh but God wants us to reunit with Him and live in His love; basking in the light of His goodness and enriching our soul in His presence.

Blog: Always Learning

Hi. I am Stephen Porter; a Christian who is also a normal everyday working person. I have been a Christian for over 30 years. God has gone to a great deal of trouble to let us know Him intimately and to help us understand His way of doing things, so this blog is simply my attempt to help you know and understand God in today's ordinary world. I will not argue with anyone but I will try to expand on your understanding by answering as many questions as my time will allow.
