Vandals plague Chipman marina

CHIPMAN - The warm weather is attracting young people to the downtown marina area in Chipman and the problem of vandalism was a topic of discussion at the regular village council meeting recently.
Coun. Carol Boyd said the damage done to the gazebo is distressing.
"The handrail is broken, some of the lattice work gone, and it looks like a bomb hit it," she said.
"The picnic table has been broken to pieces," said deputy mayor Ed Farris.
"We've had No Loitering signs posted down there, and the kids painted out the 'No,' " said Mayor Carol Doherty.
Council mentioned the vandalism problems to RCMP Constables Ian Fahie and Peter Campbell who were at the meeting. The police informed council that used syringes are also being found in the village, including across the street from the elementary school.
"If people do pick up any syringes, they can be turned in to the RCMP or at the Chipman ambulance bay," Fahie said.
If a large number of syringes is found in one area, the police should certainly be called, he added.
Presiding over her last meeting as mayor, Doherty thanked the RCMP for their help and all the extra things they do.
Doherty also told council that the meeting scheduled for last week with Health Minister Mike Murphy to discuss concerns about the ambulance service was cancelled due to flooding problems.
