Truro police officers under investigation

HALIFAX - Kenny Roode was waiting for the pain in his head to subside Saturday before heading to the police department in Truro, N.S., to file a complaint against a group of off-duty officers he says attacked him outside a bar last week.
"I'm still sore and my vision's blurry," said the 34-year-old Truro man, one of several people arrested after the disturbance outside the Warehouse Lounge early Friday.
An external criminal investigation is underway and a separate Police Act investigation will also be conducted, Chief Dave MacNeil of Truro police said Saturday.
"To ensure partiality and public confidence in the process, we've asked Halifax Regional Police to lead the investigation," MacNeil said.
MacNeil confirmed Saturday that five off-duty officers - three male and two female - were involved. He confirmed one of the officers sustained an unspecified injury.
Roode said he and four friends had a few drinks at home before they headed to the bar at about 1:15 a.m. Friday. He said they tried to get in but were turned away.
"I knew that there was one cop trying to get in, too, and I said, 'Look, if you get in there, there's something wrong with this picture.' Just joking, right?" he said.
"Then someone else said something. I walked over to hear what he had to say and the next thing I know I was pushed down on the ground."
