GUELPH, Ont. - An Ontario woman who has admitted to killing two of her babies said in an interview with police that she considered killing her two-month-old daughter in 2004.

A six-hour videotaped interview with the accused woman was shown in a Guelph, Ont., court on Thursday.

"There was one time where I thought I was gonna do the same thing, but I just went out, just packed up the kids and went out," the accused told a Waterloo homicide detective in January 2005. "Went out in public."

The 27-year-old woman, who has said she killed her infant sons in 1998 and 2002, can't be identified because she was a youth at the time of the first death.

She's charged with two counts of first-degree murder in their deaths.

The woman told a police sergeant she couldn't remember what was happening the day she thought about killing her daughter.

"All I remember is that I was getting the same feelings and I just packed the kids and went out," the woman said.

Court has heard the woman intentionally suffocated her sons with blankets and plastic sheets. But her defence lawyer has said he'll argue that his client should be convicted of the lesser charge of infanticide because her mind was "disturbed" by the effects of childbirth during both of the killings.

During the interview, the accused said she believes post-partum depression is "a state of not being yourself," and said she thinks the first time she experienced it was after the birth of her daughter.

"There were times I would just leave her in her bed just because I felt that was the safest thing for her," the accused said.

Court has heard the accused was admitted to the mental health facility in December 2004 and admitted to a psychiatrist she had intentionally killed her babies.

Police in Guelph and Kitchener had ruled the deaths to be cases of sudden infant death syndrome.

During the police interview, the woman described in detail how she covered the boys and waited for them to stop breathing before calling 911.

She told the officer when she covered the first victim with blankets and a plastic stroller cover, she knew he would die.

"The second that you turned away, to walk out of that door, what were you thinking?" the police sergeant asked.

"I wanted him to sleep," the accused said.

"For?" the sergeant asked.

"Permanently," the woman responded.
