This year's winners from Fredericton are River Valley Health for Technological Advancement and Innovation in the Public Sector; SwiftRadius for Employment Growth; and Radian6 Technologies Inc. for Most Promising Startup.

"We are absolutely thrilled to win the KIRA Award for technological innovation in the public sector," said Andrea Seymour, vice-president of health information for River Valley Health.

"This project was about putting technology at the fingertips of caregivers to allow them to chart electronically as opposed to using traditional pen and paper," she said.

"It is a huge step forward for us in our move toward an electronic health record and there is early indication that the project has created better access to information for clinical decision making, resulting in better quality outcomes for patients and families."

"We are honoured and proud," said Marcel LeBrun, CEO of Radian6 Technologies.

The winner in the Most Promising Startup category said his company has a globally recognized brand in social media marketing. The company was founded in 2006.

"We are leaders in our field and we are happy to receive this recognition," said SwiftRadius CEO Kevin Hurley.

"We are very honoured to be selected as winners in the Employment Growth category."

SwiftRadius is an enterprise solutions provider and excels in project management, analysis, architecture, design, implementation and integration of Internet technologies.

There are 25 employees on staff and those numbers continue to grow. The company was founded in 2004 by Scott Macintosh.

"We've been very successful in attracting strong clients and strong employees," Hurley said. "Both are crucial to our success and future growth."

Lori MacMullen, KIRA 2008 organizing committee co-chairwoman, said the response to this year's KIRA Awards was tremendous.

"The number of nominations that we had this year and the sellout rate clearly demonstrates that the knowledge industry in New Brunswick is more vibrant than ever."

"This is truly an industry event that is owned and supported by the industry," said KIRA 2008 organizing committee co-chairwoman Heather MacLean. "It is tremendous to see how the industry has grown over the last decade."

Other winners included TSI Auto Solutions of Saint John for Export Product; Spheric Technologies of Moncton for Export Service; Kristan Palmer of Saint John for Industry Person of the Year; and TrustMe Security Inc. of Moncton for Technological Advancement and Innovation in the Private Sector.

Six other Fredericton and area groups were nominated:

* Red Hot Learning Inc.

* LuminUltra Technologies Ltd.

* Chalk Media Corp.

* C-Therm Technologies Ltd.

* Canadian Forces Base Gagetown

* The provincial Department of Agriculture and Aquaculture

"We have broken our record for the number of nominations submitted this year," MacLean said.

There were 45 nominations this year up from 34 last year.

"The record number of nominations together with a record number of sponsorships - 21 - and an early sellout of the 500 gala tickets made it an unforgettable event."

Thursday's ceremony recognized and celebrated New Brunswick's excellence in the knowledge industry.

"The KIRA Awards represent a vibrant industry with a unique spirit and entrepreneurial character that New Brunswickers possess," MacLean said.

Seamus O'Regan of CTV's Canada AM was master of ceremonies.

The event included a commemorative video highlighting the award's 10-year history.

The awards selection committee is made up of a panel of experts brought together by Enterprise Fredericton. Identities of the committee members are kept in confidence.

The committee selected the Top 3 candidates from each of the award categories and winners are announced during the annual gala event.
