City man enters guilty plea to prostitution solicitation
Phillip Alton Richardson, 48, of 376, Route 104 Highway, Millville, pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of attempting to solicit the services of a prostitute in a public place.
Crown prosecutor William Corby said Richardson was arrested April 17 of this year after attempting to pick up a female undercover police officer.
Richardson was the lone occupant of a green pickup truck when he honked at the female officer, believing her to be a prostitute.
"I'm just sorry that it happened," Richardson told Judge Graydon Nicholas on Friday.
Richardson was fined $300 plus a victim-fine surcharge. Because he lives on a disability pension, Richardson was given until Jan. 7 to pay the fine.
A total of nine men, between the ages of 25 and 55 from Fredericton, Millville and Quebec, have been charged with similar offences after a Fredericton Police Force investigation dubbed Operation Free Flow.
The undercover police operation targeted prostitution-related offences on the north side of the city.
Trial date set for woman on drug-related charges
Brittany Amanda Green, 20, of 760 Hanwell Rd., will be back in court Dec. 11 at 1:30 p.m. to face trial on five drug-related charges.
Green entered not-guilty pleas on all five counts in provincial court Friday. One additional count was withdrawn.
Some of the charges relate to possession of property obtained as the proceeds of crime.
Accused earns jail time for breaching court orders
John Ernest Stafford, 41, of no fixed address drew jail time Friday for breach of probation and undertakings, as well as two drug charges.
Stafford was stopped by Fredericton Police Force members May 28. A second person with him in the vehicle, for whom a warrant was outstanding, fled the scene.
Stafford was found to be in possession of 0.2 grams of cocaine and a small quantity of Dilaudid pills.
He was on probation at the time of the offence and subsequently failed to report to his probation officers as required.
He was further charged with breaching conditions of his release.
Defence lawyer Ron Morris said Stafford had recently been admitted to a methadone-treatment program to assist him with his "severe addictions."
Judge Graydon Nicholas sentenced Stafford to 30 days in jail for the breach of probation, 30 days for breaching undertakings, and seven and 10 days each on the two drug charges.
Those jail sentences are to be served consecutively.
