Families looking to adopt still waiting

It will now be at least Monday before local families caught in the financial collapse of an Ontario-based international adoption agency hear details of a restructuring plan that could see their adoptions completed.

"It won't be released until at least Monday," said Julie Stewart.

The Moncton resident had already paid for an adoption that has yet to be completed and is one of five creditors who have been named a bankruptcy inspector in the case of Imagine Adoption.

She said inspectors met Wednesday and were reconvening Friday to discuss the plan further.

Creditors are expected to hear details of the proposal next week.

Home in Penniac focus of drug raid

Two men have been taken into custody thanks to tips from the public and a joint forces investigation involving the RCMP and the Fredericton Police Force.

A search of a residence and property on Penniac Road in Penniac resulted in the seizure of thousands of prescription pills, including oxycodone, clonazepam, hydromorophone and fentanyl, and marijuana.

Police also seized three firearms, ammunition and a quantity of cash.

The investigation and search was carried out Thursday by RCMP J Division's drug section, the Fredericton Police Force's drug section, RCMP Jetway personnel and members from RCMP District 2.

"The assistance of the general public was important and appreciated in this case," said District 2 Cpl. Jim Christensen.

"It is believed this investigation will make a significant impact on the availability of prescription drugs that are diverted to the illegal market in the greater Fredericton area."
