Local hospital visitation rules come into effect

Health officials have introduced special measures for visitors to local hospitals and health-care facilities.
People who are experiencing flu-like symptoms such as coughs, fevers, and sore throats have been asked to stay away from local health-care facilities.
However, if a person must visit a patient, such as a relative or friend with a terminal illness, he or she will be asked to wear a mask and clean their hands periodically with antibacterial hand sanitizer.
Nicole Tupper, executive director of the two capital region hospitals, said measures have been introduced to protect patients as effectively as possible.
"If you're sick, please don't come. If you absolutely have to, and obviously there are many situations where we know that's going to happen, we will ask that they put on a mask as soon as they arrive to protect everybody else," she said.
