A Fredericton man scheduled to stand trial this week on drug-conspiracy charges instead opted to admit to the offences in provincial court Monday.

Gregory Allen Quigg, 37, of 60 Douglas Ave., changed his pleas to guilty Monday to the following two counts:

* that he conspired with Timothy Clayton Price and others in and around Fredericton to traffic in marijuana between Dec. 2-15, 2006,

* and that he conspired with Price and others in the capital region to traffic in cocaine between Dec. 13-15, 2006.

Sentencing was set over to Jan. 27 to allow for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Quigg remains free pending sentencing, though he's likely looking at time behind bars.

He was one of several people who were charged as a result of Operation Jellybean, a joint-forces drug investigation that ran for a couple of years and focused on the drug trade in Fredericton.

Operation Jellybean was a police investigation that targeted crime groups involved in trafficking in a variety of drugs, including anabolic steroids, cocaine, marijuana, and prescription drugs.

Price, 39, formerly of 151 Claremont Dr., who was believed to be one of the key figures in that group, was sentenced last summer to 11 years in prison for 22 Jellybean-related charges.

Two other Jellybean defendants - brothers Justin Terrance Nolais, 34, of 26 Eyre St. in Noonan and Kirby Roy Nolais, 32, of 22 Eyre St. - are scheduled to appear in provincial court Friday to be sentenced for several drug-trafficking offences.
