ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Puppy recovering
A 12-week-old puppy in Newfoundland is doing well after having one of its eyes removed earlier this week.
Casey - a female German shepherd-terrier mix - was found in the Mount Pearl area near St. John's and taken to the Heavenly Creatures shelter by animal control on Wednesday.
Jessica Rendell, president of Heavenly Creatures, says the puppy was brought to the St. John's Veterinary Hospital where the infected eye was removed.
Rendell says either somebody stabbed the dog or it managed to stab itself on something, but she still considers it a case of neglect because no one took the dog for treatment.
Margaret Brown-Bury, the veterinarian who treated Casey, says a lot of pressure had built up in the eye.
But she says the surgery went well and Casey will be released in a day or two.
RCMP: Blaze is suspicious
KENNETCOOK, N.S. - RCMP say they are investigating a suspicious blaze that destroyed a vehicle and damaged the fire hall in Kennetcook, N.S.
The Windsor district of the RCMP says it received an emergency call after 7 a.m. on Friday that a car next to the hall was on fire.
The car had been reported stolen a couple of hours earlier.
This vehicle fire spread to the hall, damaging a bay, but police say no fire equipment was damaged.
Premier Danny Williams shuffles cabinet again
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Premier Danny Williams of Newfoundland and Labrador has shuffled his cabinet for the fifth time in a year.
Williams appointed former fisheries minister Tom Hedderson to head the Transportation Department.
Clyde Jackman, the former minister of tourism, is now the fisheries minister.
Tory backbencher Terry French was promoted to become the tourism minister.
The latest shuffle comes after the sudden resignations of the health and transportation ministers earlier this fall.
The Conservative government won a byelection Thursday, giving it 43 seats in the 48-seat legislature.
There are four Liberals and one NDP member.
