N.S. man fined for trap theft

SHELBURNE, N.S. - A Nova Scotia man has been fined $5,000 for illegally using lobster traps.

William Barnes pleaded guilty in provincial court in Shelburne Wednesday to fishing lobster traps that belonged to someone else.

He also admitted to theft.

The 68-year-old from Sable River was fined another $750 for the theft charge.

Barnes was charged Jan. 8 after federal Fisheries officers responded to a tip.
