Firefighters endorse candidates

Firefighters in Oromocto know who they want for councillors.
The Oromocto Professional Firefighters Association has endorsed two candidates in Ward 3 and two in Ward 1.
In Ward 1, incumbents Dianne Buchanan and Allison Mockler have been chosen from a field of five.
Incumbent Greg Doucet and challenger Kelly Murdock have been endorsed in Ward 3.
Deputy mayor Mel Vance didn't make the list.
"We have a vision of a modern and progressive fire service for Oromocto, one that is prepared to grow and to deliver an improved level of service and, in order to achieve that, we need the support of Oromocto council," association president Brian Ferguson said in a release.
"Oromocto needs councillors who are prepared to listen to firefighters, to the public and to other public-safety stakeholders and who are prepared to ensure they have all the facts before making decisions that directly impact fire fighter and public safety."
Firefighters met with all municipal council candidates and public-safety issues before making their choices.
Vance described the process as "morally wrong" and not good for taxpayers.
