RCMP to conduct weekend blitz
As part of Canada Road Saftey Week, New Brunswick drivers will see a lot more checkstops by local RCMP officers.
Officers will be looking for drivers driving under the influence, not wearing seatbelts or speeding.
The RCMP estimates 85 per cent of all accident injuries could have been prevented if the drivers were wearing seat belts, driving the speed limit and not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Almost 300 law enforcement agencies will be taking part in the blitz.
Man facing fraud charges waives bail hearing
A local man facing a number of fraud charges has waived his right to a bail hearing.
Proceedings against Terry Wade Welch, 41, of no fixed address, have been adjourned to June 6.
Welch faces nine charges including fraud, breach of probation, and failing to appear for court.
His lawyer said Friday during the court appearance that he expects his client to face a number of other matters when he returns to court.
Police issued a public appeal for help finding Welch after he failed to appear in court May 9.
