Healthy Families, Healthy Communities presents the second annual fredkid fair on Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Capital Exhibit Centre. This is a one-day event aimed at bringing together the many resources available to families in the Greater Fredericton Area. Admission is free.

RCSCC Fredericton will be hosting its 55th annual ceremonial review with the parade commencing at 2 p.m. at the Carleton Street Armoury. The executive officer of HMCS Fredericton, LCdr Anderson will be the reviewing officer for the parade; he will be accompanied by CPO2 Black. The cadets of RCSCC FREDERICTON will be demonstrating their skills by performing a number of displays. A reception will be held immediately following the parade. The Royal Canadian Sea Cadets is an organization for youth from 12 to 18 years old.

Fri., May 16

Community Cooking for Seniors is a new program for seniors interested in cooking and eating healthy. It takes place the first and third Friday of most months, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Smythe Street Superstore. Space is limited so you need to pre-register by calling 458-9482 by 10 a.m. the day before the program runs. A volunteer can pick you up and bring you home, if needed, and there is a charge of $10 HST. You may participate in the preparations, have a meal and take some home.

There will be a country concert, featuring the group Classic Country Sam Johnston, Bill Stewart, Bryce Brewer, Debbie Patterson, Keith Munn and John Jeffries, at the Marysville Heritage Centre, 11 McGloin St., Saturday, May 17. Fredericton's Relay for Life will be held on June 13 at the Fredericton High School. Participants take turns walking, running or strolling around a track. Teams consist of individuals representing corporations, neighbourhoods, community groups and/or families and friends. Food, entertainment, activities, contests and the victorious theme of survivorship make Relay For Life an event not soon forgotten by those who experience it. Community Weight Loss Challenge began April 15 and runs every Tuesday for 11 weeks from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at Ridgeview Middle School, 102 Waasis Rd., Oromocto. The cost is $39 of which $10 is donated to a charity devoted to ending adolescent obesity, $25 goes back to the contestants to be won by the three biggest losers, and $4 goes towards weekly prizes. Information on how to lose weight safely is provided each week. Rules are in place to keep everyone consistent. Everyone who brings two people wins a prize.
