Fredericton Folks On Spokes, a bicycle group for ages 50 and up, will leave from the Trail Visitor Centre on the north side of the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge at 10 a.m. for its first ride of the season on the Douglas or Gibson Trail. Wear a bicycle helmet and bring drinking water.

The Fredericton Backyard Composters will be having a free master composter course April 21, 23, 28, 30 and a day-long field trip on May 2. The course will involve four three-hour evening classroom sessions and will require participants to volunteer 20 hours, over a year, to the Fredericton Backyard Composters. The conference is entitled Health, Wellness and Working: Where does psychology fit? The keynote speaker is Dr. Marvin Claybourn, licensed psychologist. This public conference is designed to help employers and employees prevent, recognize and deal with mental health difficulties within the workplace.

Miscellaneous

Fredkid presents the third session in the 2009 fredkid family learning series: The ABCs of the Birds and the Bees: Talking to your child about sex, presenter Lucy O'Sullivan will explore ways to talk about sex with your kids. The session, co-presented by the Paediatric Lifestyle Management Program, will take place on Thursday, April 30 at 7p.m. in room 303 at Tilley Hall on the UNB campus. Admission is free. The 2009 Adopt-a-Book campaign is underway until May 31. Books may be purchased at Westminster Books and donated to the Fredericton Public Library or the Nashwaaksis Public School Library. Staff at Westminster has a wish list from each library.

April is Cancer Awareness month and the Canadian Cancer Society Western district is holding its annual Door to Door Campaign. Volunteers will be knocking on doors throughout Fredericton and surrounding areas collecting donations for the Canadian Cancer Society NB Division.
