The Ladies Auxiliary to Fredericton Branch 4 The Royal Canadian Legion presented the Legion’s highest award to two of its members. The Palm Leaf to, from left, the Meritorious Service Award was presented to Lois Phillips and Nellie Clarke. Both women have been extremely active in auxiliary work and in legion work for many years.

Treasurer Thurston Gallagher's financial report showed the district is in good shape financially.

All branches of the district were well represented. Reports from all of them were well represented. The reports showed membership is down and some branches are having problems. But all are finding ways to cope and all spoke glowingly of their ladies auxiliaries who do so much to assist their branches both with money and with work. Some have improved the look and comfort of their branches. Bingo, dances, catering, breakfasts and sports events contribute to the finances of the branches.

Harold Perrin spoke about the Youth Leadership Program held at Mount A University each year.

Plans for the poppy campaign are well underway and track and field continues to be very busy with various meets in various places. Several medals came to New Brunswick.

Sgt.-at-Arms Boyd Ring reminded members that only the legion flag is dipped now-a-days.

Ricki Love brought news from N.B. Command and said the 2010 convention will be held at Fredericton Branch 4. He spoke about the millitary recognition service booklet and said more must be done to bring this to the attention of all members. Sweepstakes are not going as well as previously.

A new director has been hired for the leadership training at Mount A. He suggested membership renewals be followed up each year, and internal strife in the branches must be discouraged.

Sgt.-at-Arms Boyd Ring was presented with Legionnaire of the Year Award by Thurston Gallagher, chairman of honours and awards.

District Commander Joe Rideout noted a new darts chairman is needed and asked for a volunteer to chair the military recognition booklet, preferrably a veteran. Brian Vessey, who attended the youth remembrance at Vimy, will speak at the spring rally.

The possibility of combing the council and rallies was also discussed and will be taken under consideration.
