Published Saturday November 28th, 2009

The Maritime Gospel Music Association is presenting a Christmas concert tonight at 7 p.m.
The concert will take place at Crosspoint Wesleyan Church, 4 Coronation Ct. in Marysville.
Dubbed Joy To The World, the concert features New Brunswick gospel music artists Christine Crain, Barb Prosser-Winder, The Ascensions and The McGuires.
According to MGMA president Burrell Cross, a Fredericton resident who holds down the bass parts in the southern gospel-styled quartet The Ascensions, "A valued addition to the MGMA has been Arend Laagland-Winder taking over the position of events co-ordinator for New Brunswick. Arend has extensive promotion experience and was asked to join with the mandate to grow MGMA regionally and has aggressively begun fulfilling another goal of having quality Maritime-wide gospel concerts featuring the Maritime's best gospel artists providing them a launching platform to display their talents and recording projects.
"These concerts, which have been basically held locally for budget purpose, will become the standard for quality gospel and beginning in 2010 will be taken on the road across the province of N.B. and throughout N.S. and P.E.I., again featuring Atlantic home-grown talent, culminating with an annual festival and peer awards starting also in 2010."
The McGuires have been singing together since 1995 when they started their first group, The Ambassadors of the Gospel.
Todd and Penny McGuire pastor in Harvey, where they have ministered since 2006. They had earlier pastorates in Four-Falls, Campobello Island, and Perth-Andover.
Laagland-Winder said, "The McGuires have decided to take their ministry to the next level with the recent release of their current album The Long Arm of Love."
The Ascensions have been ministering in music for 32 years. They have received numerous awards from the N.B. Gospel Music Hall of Fame as well as East Coast Music Award nominations.
"Now, they will share the message of the King's birth through song," Laagland-Winder said. "Lance Matheson has written seven Christmas songs in his career of writing over 80 songs. Along with his wife Peggy, Devin Cooke and Burrell Cross, they welcome you to MGMA's first annual Christmas event."
As do all the participants, Christine Crain does her music on the side as an offering to her Lord. Her main work is as a Christian counsellor. Her music has touched many through the years, and her latest album Shine was nominated for two Covenant Awards from the Canadian Gospel Music Association in 2009, making the short lists for both best folk album and inspirational song of year.
Barb Prosser-Winder's third album, Coming Home For Christmas, received a nomination for a Covenant Award in 2008.
According to her husband Laagland-Winder, "She's currently working on her fourth recording project, which will include three original compositions written or co-written by her. She's also writing Christian inspirational fiction; samples can be found on her website: www.barbprosserwinder.com."
Tickets for tonight's concert are $12. They are available at The Lighthouse, CJRI Radio, and The Olive Branch. They may also be purchased at the door.
