Acting platoon chief Mike Lake said four units responded to Freddie’s Pizza & Donair on Mountain Road around 2:15 p.m.

“As soon as they opened the door they found visible flames,” he said.

The business was open at the time, but staff were able to evacuate and there were no injuries, said Lake.

The fire department was able to knock down the fire quickly, and were on scene for under an hour. Lake said the fire prevention unit is currently investigating the cause of the fire, and more details on the extent of the damage will be known once the unit has finished its investigation.

St. Louis Bar & Grill, which is located in the same plaza as Freddie’s, said in a post on its official Facebook page that the Mountain Road location will be “temporarily closed” because of the fire.

“We will provide an update as soon as we can,” said the restaurant in the post. “Happy to say that everyone is safe and sound, and a special thanks to the Moncton Fire Department for their quick response.”

Devil’s Halo Cheesecakes and Milkshakes, which is also operating out of the building, said in a post on its official Facebook page that it plans to re-open on Wednesday.
