Edward Douglas Hill, 46, of Lakeville, was in provincial court on Friday by phone from jail where he’s been since he was remanded following a bail hearing earlier this week. He told the judge he’s applied for legal aid but hasn’t received a response yet so the court adjourned his pleas to May 10.

Hill is facing several charges relating to an April 23 crash that happened on Wheeler Boulevard just before 6 p.m. He’s accused of leaving the scene and of failing to stop and give his name and address and see if anyone was injured and needed help.

That charge specifies the crash caused injuries to Kais M’Bazza, Brenda M’Bazza and Megan Patterson.

Hill is also charged with three counts of driving dangerously causing bodily harm to those three people, driving while his licence was suspended and driving while prohibited from doing so by a court order imposed on Sept. 6, 2023.

Hill briefly disputed the charges over the phone, saying he shouldn’t be charged with failing to stop after the collision when he did stop. He also said he shouldn’t be in jail or charged at all.

“I shouldn’t be in here,” he said. “It wasn’t my fault. I had a seizure.”
