COVID levels dropping in most of N.B., data show

Six of New Brunswick’s seven COVID-19 waste water detection sites are showing decreasing levels of the virus.

As of March 28, levels are dropping in Campbellton, Edmundston, Moncton, Saint John, Miramichi and Bathurst.

They’re stable in Fredericton.

The waste water detection program, conducted at the Public Health Agency of Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg, looks at the level of the virus present in sewage using a seven-day rolling average, according to the dashboard website. This provides a snapshot of the prevalence of COVID-19 in the tracked municipalities.

“Nationally, 62 sites submit sewage samples for processing, representing 49.58 per cent of the Canadian population,” reads a note on Health Canada’s website

“Of those sites, seven showed an increase, 29 showed a decrease and 26 showed no change as of March 28.”
