Thumbs up to the City of Fredericton for being recognized as one of the top walking cities in the country. This city was runner up in the 2008 Best Walking City in Canada contest released Thursday by the Canadian Federation of Podiatric Medicine. Vancouver captured top honour.

Thumbs down to Armed Forces mental health officials for declining to comment on concerns expressed by a pair of Fredericton psychologists on the quality of services available for soldiers at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown. Silence is not always golden, especially in an environment where tough questions have to be asked and answers are expected.

Thumbs up to the city for beginning the process of paving over winter diggings on our streets. Grateful motorists can only hope that this is the start of something beautiful in Fredericton.
