COLDBROOK, N.S. - A 19-year-old was stabbed with a knife and another teen punched several times in a melee involving up to 30 young people Tuesday night.

Police received a 9-1-1 call around 9:30 p.m. about several youths in a fight behind a strip mall off Highway 1, RCMP Const. Les Kakonyi said Wednesday.

Several police cars and officers were dispatched.

But "when our members got there, a lot of the crowd scattered," he said.

A 19-year-old man was taken to Valley Regional Hospital where he was treated for a stab wound in the back, along with some other cuts. He was treated overnight.

"Most of the wounds were superficial. They weren't deep cuts," Kakonyi said.

Charges of assault with a weapon are pending, but Kakonyi said.
