One of only two females among remaining nine Canadian Idol hopefuls eliminated

TORONTO - There's one lone female remaining among the final eight contestants on Canadian Idol.

Tuesday night's results show saw Katherine St-Laurent eliminated from the competition.

The CTV program revealed the 17-year-old Otterburn Park, Que., student, who performed Move Over by Janis Joplin the previous night, received the fewest number of some 2.1 million votes cast this week.

That leaves Amberly Thiessen, 19, of Seven Persons, Alta., as the lone female competitor remaining.

The theme of performances this week was Rock and Roll Heaven.

Next week's Unplugged episode airing Monday will see the final eight contestants working with former Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale.

On Tuesday, the show also announced that future guest stars confirmed to appear on the show this season include Bryan Adams, Simple Plan and Tom Jones.

The seven other remaining contestants are:

* Mark Day, 20, Portugal Cove-St. Philips, NL, student, respite care worker

* Mitch MacDonald, 22, Port Hood, NS, carpenter, musician

* Mookie Morris, 18, Toronto, musician

* Sebastian Pigott, 25, Toronto, actor, writer

* Earl Stevenson, 23, Lloydminster, AB, swamper for a backhoe operator

* Theo Tams, 23, Lethbridge, AB, student

* Drew Wright, 28, Collingwood, ON, musician, house painter

Jonas Brothers buy house in Dallas-Fort Worth area

WESTLAKE, Texas - The Jonas Brothers are reported to have bought a house in a Dallas-Fort Worth suburb - and some young neighbours sound thrilled.

Tarrant County records obtained by The Dallas Morning News indicate that the three band members granted power of attorney to their mother, Denise Jonas, to buy a $2.8 million, six-bedroom house in Vaquero, a gated community in the suburb of Westlake. The documents were signed June 12.

A real estate agent confirmed the house's sale but said the contract prevented her from commenting further. A publicist for the band, which began a tour last month, declined to comment.

"Yeah, I heard they are moving into the area!" nine-year-old Emily Clark said with wide eyes as she jumped out of the pool at Westlake's Solana Club. They're coming in three months, she said with an air of certainty.

The exclusive neighbourhood already includes major leaguer Mark Teixeira, former star quarterbacks Drew Bledsoe and Terry Bradshaw, not to mention several pro golfers. Pro golfer Brian Watts discovered he might have new neighbours when he returned from Japan.
