ROLLING OUT THE CARPET: Montana’s Cookhouse will open its doors today. Above, Jason Amato, service manager, left, and Brad Powers, kitchen manager, roll out the carpet near the entrance.

Montana's Cookhouse - a Hamilton, Ont.-based chain that specializes in steaks and ribs - has almost 80 restaurants across Canada and the U.S., including Moncton and Saint John.

Gregory Plester, general manager of the Fredericton location, said he and his staff are looking forward to making a good first impression.

"Since Montana's arrived on the East Coast, people have really welcomed it with open arms, and we're really excited to be here in Fredericton," said Plester.

He said the hunting-lodge style cookhouse, located at 6 Trinity Ave. in the Corbett Centre development, seats almost 210 people and has about 100 employees.

"All of the managers and trainers who have been out here to help out can't stop talking about the East Coast charm, so I think that certainly goes a long way with our brand and what we believe in as well," he said.

Plester said the restaurant hours are 11 a.m. to midnight from Sunday to Thursday, with extended hours Fridays and Saturdays until 1 a.m., depending on how busy it is.

"We want to make Montana's a destination at all hours of the day, and we're encouraging people to come in and take advantage of our restaurant menu, as well as our signature bar," Plester said.

Ron Craig, director of guest experience for Montana's eastern Canada locations, said he's confident the restaurant will be a hit with local diners.

"It's our third location in New Brunswick and we've had some great success in other parts of the province," said Craig.

"We're fairly confident that Fredericton will be a very positive location for us as well."

Craig said Montana's sponsors a reading-incentive program for schoolchildren called Camp Read Well.

Teachers who sign up for the free program assign monthly reading goals to their students, who then receive a free kids meal from Montana's when the goals are met.

"It's just a program to encourage kids to pick up a book, and reading is a great activity to push and something that we've had involvement in for the past five or six years," said Craig.

Montana's Cookhouse is the third business to open in the Corbett Centre: Home Depot opened in 2006 and a Dollarama store opened Aug. 5.

Other businesses planned for the 18-hectare (45-acre) development include: East Side Mario's, Michael's, Winners, Petcetera, Linen 'N Things and a warehouse club.

I wish them good luck. First impressions mean a lot in this city. I have seen many restaurants have trouble with that first week, with cooks walking out, very long waits, etc. Hopefully they have found some good people to work there.

Frank it is up near the Home Depot across the road from ChinaMart.

While i have enjoyed a few meals at the steak house in Moncton, I must say if you know how to properly cook steak, you can have a wonderful meal at home.

People go to the big chain food stores and buy crappy meat and can't understand why it doesn't taste good.

Next time you plan a BBQ at home rather than going to one of these stores for meat try you local butcher!!

Not only are you buying really good quality meat for a fraction of the price at big stores, you would be supporting the local man.

I will look forward to eating at Montana's soon but not as much as my own tenderloin bbqed right at home!

And it is really nice to see some finer food chains coming to town! Just wait until East Side open's it's doors!

My family have been watching and waiting in anticipation of Montana's opening! It's always been a real treat for us to go to Moncton for a shopping trip and have supper at Montana's! They have a delicious menu, good prices and are very entertaining, too! Be sure to go on your birhtday, too!

One thing that my kids love is that while you wait for your meal (which usually isn't very long!) you can draw and colour on the tablecloth...a long piece of brown paper that covers the table! Adults even get caught up in the drawing and coloring...or doodling! It is definately family-friendly!

Welcome to Fredericton, Montana's! Our family will be in soon!

I agree, Nashwaak Fisher. I have never had a T-bone served to me that was better than I can produce on a BBQ. But, sometimes the atmosphere is worth the trip. Anyway, let's hope the do well.

Dear Mr Nashwaak Fisher, you ruined an otherwise decent comment by trying to make a joke about Walmart.

The comment fell flat, just so you know...it just sounded kind of ignorant.

ANYWAY! It sounds like a neat place, my family and I will go check it out.

Some ladies ordered take out from Montanas today. A Chicken Ceaser Salad was 15 bucks.
I'm from Halifax, I used to visit Montanas a lot in Bayers Lake. I personally look forward to it. It's a great place for all occasions. It's about time F'ton opens new dinning options. Fredericton is SERIUOSLY LACKING in this area. Anyone know when the street between Alison Blvd and Trinity Ave opens??????
