Three Fredericton District Soccer Association teams - under-16 girls and boys, under-12 boys - earned gold medals at the Aliant Premiership provincials held in Rothesay on the weekend.

The FDSA Clark Toyota Caps U16 girls edged Chaleur 1-0 in Sunday's final. Emilie Pelletier scored midway through the first half and keeper Yashna Hathi made the goal stand up.

Chaleur finished atop the U16 standings with an 8-1-3 record, just one point up on the 8-2-2 Caps.

Fredericton beat 4-3-4 Moncton First Touch 2-0 in Saturday's semifinal.

Kayla Painter and Leandra Upton connected for the Caps to back Hathi's shutout goalkeeping.

The FDSA Canadian Tire U16 Boys Caps, who went 11-0-1 in the regular season, blanked Chaleur 4-0 in semifinal play and First Touch 2-0 in the final on goals by Aaron Gagnon and Peter Reimer.

In the semi, Reimer scored twice while David Jamael and Simon Marmura, on a penalty shot, buried the other goals. Eric McGarry recorded the shutout. The FDSA boys and Fundy girls had already qualified for the U18 nationals in Vaughan, Ont., Oct. 8-13. The U14 nationals are in Charlottetown and the U16 Adidas Cup will be in Sydney, also on Thanksgiving weekend.

There are no national competitions for under 12 divisions, but the FDSA Canadian Tire Caps capped a tremendous 20-1-1 season with a gold medal victory yesterday.

The Caps edged Dieppe 5-4 in a shootout after two five-minute overtime sessions solved nothing. Andrew Stapleton scored the decisive goal against Dieppe keeper Mathieu Melanson.

Sawyer Eddy, Val Price, James Tang and Alex Voisine notched the other goals to back keepers Cameron Rae and Alex Cameron.

Rae Rae saved the first Dieppe attempt and all four FDSA players - Patrick Thompson, Marcus Urquhart, Antonio Filipovic and Stapleton - successfully converted their kicks to see Fredericton to the win.

Hugo Crisp Lacroix, Patrick Gauvin, Uk Kim and Jesse Riley replied for Dieppe, which finished the regular season in third place with an 8-5-2 record.

The Caps, who finished first with a 13-1-1 mark, downed Fundy No. Two 3-1 in semifinal play Saturday.

Price, Voisine and Thompson connected for the Caps in support of goalies Rae and Cameron. Mark Chase had the lone goal for Fundy.

In the U14 girls final, Chaleur beat the FDSA Clark Toyota Caps 3-1 to finish 17-0-0 in regular season and playoff action. Anouk Pelletier, Catherine Guitard and Alexandra Roy scored for the winners.

Grace Hicks countered for the Caps, who went 9-6-0 in the regular season and edged Dieppe 1-0 in semifinal play as Amanda Kenny scored the lone goal against Danielle Melanson. Josee Carr posted the shutout.

In the U14 boys final, First Touch beat the FDSA Canadian Tire Caps 3-1 on the strength of goals by Jeremy Clark, Bart Pijnenburg and Alexandre Theriault.

Tommy MacLean scored the lone goal for the Caps, who downed Chaleur 6-2 in semifinal action thanks to three goals by MacLean, two by Andre Aikens and another by Daniel Ko. Joey Arseneau scored both goals against winning keeper Phillippe Long.

First Touch was 13-2-0 in the regular season while FDSA was second at 11-2-2.

In under 12 girls, First Touch (16-1-2) earned a narrow 1-0 victory over Fredericton (6-12-2). Renee Gauvin scored the only goal while Kate Foreman recorded the shutout.
