Boil order continues in Doaktown
Published Tuesday October 7th, 2008

Residents who live north of the Doaktown Bridge in the Village of Doaktown remain under a water boil advisory, although water for bathing and cooking has been restored.
"We have to test it for at least days. It could be Thursday before it's on," Mayor Charles Stewart said.
In the meantime, the boil order remains in place, he said.
Last Friday, Stewart issued a public caution to boil water due to a water main break.
Stewart said the cause of the pipe break hasn't yet been determined.
Even though the break has been repaired, the boil order must remain in place until the village obtains two clear drinking water samples, and those samples must be cleared by the provincial Department of Health, said Sherry Nagle, assistant village clerk.
Only then, will the boil order be lifted, she said.
The mayor said all water to be used for drinking, preparing infant formulas or juices, washing fruits and vegetables, for cooking and for dental hygiene, must be held to a rolling boil for at least one minute before the water can be used.
Toddlers and infants should be sponge-bathed and caregivers need to ensure no water is swallowed.
Stewart said the boil order is a precaution.
The village provided alternatives over the weekend. Water was made available at the Doaktown fire hall on Main Street on Saturday and Sunday and at the pumphouse behind the arena.
Doaktown Consolidated High School offered its showers to the public Saturday and Sunday.
"Our water department and staff are working diligently on this problem and council hopes corrective measures can be taken soon. We thank our firefighters for their assistance at this time," the mayor said.
