Fire department investigates Rusagonis garage fire
Published Saturday January 3rd, 2009

The Oromocto Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire Friday afternoon that destroyed a garage at 108 Whittaker Rd. in Rusagonis.
Firefighters from Oromocto and New Maryland responded just after noon and were successful in preventing flames from spreading to an attached house.
Oromocto fire Chief Jody Price said the fire caused considerable damage inside the garage but won't impact continued occupancy of the house.
Someone who was passing by noticed the fire.
Shortly after that fire was extinguished, firefighters from New Maryland were deployed to the community's elementary school.
A pipe connected to the sprinkler system in the school gym busted.
New Maryland fire Chief Harry Farrell said water from the broken pipe hit a high voltage heater in the facility's ceiling causing it to short out and a small fire to erupt.
Fortunately, the sprinkler extinguished the flames, he said. The incident caused a collection of water to accumulate on the gymnasium floor but was quickly cleaned up.
No students were affected as the school was still shut for Christmas break.
