Applications out for student summer jobs
Applications are available for students looking for summer jobs through the Student Employment and Experience Development program run by the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour.
The program provides summer jobs to eligible students in government departments, agencies, municipal and First Nations offices, and non-profit organizations.
A student must have entered a post-secondary education program in the fall of 2008 to qualify.
Applications are available at university campuses, community colleges, high schools and Service New Brunswick.
First Nation signs deal with city
St. Mary's First Nation has signed an agreement with the City of Fredericton to start a curbside recycling program.
The new recycling program is part of an umbrella deal between the city and band council which sees the city provide fire protection, animal control, street cleaning and storm sewer cleaning as required.
The $192,515 contract runs until March 31.
The blue-grey box recycling program will represent a modest part of the total agreement. It's estimated that the recycling pickup costs for 221 households will be $45,525.
Fire protection, based on a per capita cost, will be $176,505 out of the total value of the one-year agreement, which is retroactive to April 1, 2008.
