CLYDE RIVER, P.E.I. - Searchers have found the body of a young P.E.I. man who went missing after leaving a New Year's Eve party at a local golf course during a howling blizzard.
Kyle Alvin Bambrick, 18, was last seen around 3 a.m. on Jan. 1 when he headed out into a severe snowstorm in the rural community west of Charlottetown.
"We can confirm that our search and rescue teams were able to find the body of Mr. Bambrick in the Clyde River area," said RCMP Sgt. Denis Morin.
"Following direction from some volunteer searchers, it was with the help of the police services dog that we were able to make the discovery."
Morin said the body was recovered from an open field near the river, about a kilometre away from where Bambrick was last seen.
Morin could not provide details about circumstances surrounding the death other than to say investigators were still trying to piece together what happened.
Police and volunteers scoured the Clyde River area for two days interviewing witnesses and using poles to probe snowbanks and metre-high drifts along exposed rural roads.
