SYDNEY, N.S. - Cape Breton University is considering selling one of the most high-profile pieces of art in its permanent collection - a Pablo Picasso sketchbook.
The school's vice-president of development, Keith Brown, confirmed they've been looking into the process that would be involved in selling the work.
The piece was valued at US$1.3 million about a decade ago.
Brown stressed that no final decision has been made.
The sketchbook was acquired by the school 11 years ago through an anonymous donation.
"We have spoken to people who facilitated the donation ... and they're supportive of our decision, if we choose to do it, because it is our intention, if we do it, to use the proceeds to endow the art gallery to make the art gallery more accessible," said Brown.
He said the fact that the sketchbook is only seen by a limited number of people at the university is part of the reason for considering the sale.
