Harris big wheel so far
Published Monday June 1st, 2009

The roar in Geary is proving to be sweet music for fans of Fredericton Junction's Matt Harris in the pro stock division at Speedway 660.
For the second straight week, Harris claimed top honours in the division, this time earning top billing in the prestigious Max 1 Advanced Synthetic Best of the Best 100 feature put on by Coastal Blending & Packaging and featuring 20 competitors.
The second half of the two-part Best of the Best series is scheduled for July 11. With his victory Sunday, Harris has secured a provisional spot in the Peterbilt 250, the highlight of SpeedWeekend on Sept. 6.
The winner of the series automatically qualifies for the Peterbilt 250. Sunday, Harris waited for his opportunity as New Denmark's Glenn Rasmussen, who held the pole position, set the early pace in his No. 81 black dodge. First to put forth a challenge to Rasmussen was Travis Benjamin of Morrill, Me.
Benjamin led for several laps until he was overtaken by Harris with an outside pass for the lead.
Lincoln's Kevin Moore then charged up to challenge Harris for the lead and would get a great run on the outside and briefly take the lead. But a caution reverted the field to the last completed lap, putting Harris out in front once again.
He was able to maintain the edge, outdistancing last year's point winner Greg Fahey of St. St. Stephen who would finish second with Moore in third position.
In the Coast Tire street stock division, Roger Slocum of Quispamsis was the big winner, picking up a win in his heat, dash and feature for the Robin's Inn Hat Trick Award. Slocum started the 20-lap feature on the pole and dominated the race. Also ending up with a podium finish were Mike Francis of Saint John and Robert Raynes of Sommerville, N.B. The feature went very smoothly only having one caution for a car leaking fluid on the track.
In the Martin's Home Heating sportsman division, Glynn Nott of Burton claimed his first victory of the year in a rough and tumble 30-lap feature. Richard Atkinson of Geary finished second and Dan McNeil of Douglas finished third with one of his best career finishes.
Upcoming attraction for the track is DQ Kids day, plus district school challenge on Saturday beginning at 7 o'clock.
There will be regular racing in the Coast Tire Street Stock, Martin's Home Heating and Irving Lubricants Pro Stock divisions.
For DQ Kids Day, young race fans under the age of 15 will be admitted to the speedway for free.
Also any parent with a child who has a voucher given out at school will get in for five dollars.
