Re: Story published June 12 called Student gets discharge for pot possession

Having drugs is a crime... Having drugs in school is even worse," the judge said.

I am 100 per cent in favour of legalizing marijuana for adults, but I gotta tell you, any kid dumb enough to actually bring his pot into a school deserves to spend the summer picking up trash along one of the nation's many highways.

You might want to put him back a grade, too, because clearly, the basics just aren't sinking in.

This is a site worth seeing

Re: Kings Landing Historical Settlement

Recently I had the pleasure of spending an entire afternoon at Kings Landing Historical Settlement.

Living so near, I had just never got to visit there in the 11 years I have lived in Fredericton. Sometimes we never appreciate what is just under our noses.

The view of the water from many vantage points, the "living in the times" atmosphere, the costumes, the history of the lovely old homes all combined with the friendliness of the staff and employees made for a wonderful day.

So Frederictonians, and surrounding areas, treat yourselves. Take the time to visit one of your own historical sites. You won't forget it.

A history of thumbing his nose at Canada

Re: Dr. Henry Morgentaler

The blood of the innocent flows freely in our land and the proponents of murder of the unborn are awarded the Order of Canada.

Why is it that we allow the slaughter of future generations endorsed by those we have elected or appointed to rule over us? By what grieved voice would mothers of the living plead if their unborn never saw the light of day?

Shall the living with no conscience continue to cast the first stone of execution for those within their wombs, without regard for the miracle of their own existence?

The list of those who oppose Henry Morgentaler's Order of Canada include more than 100 MPs.

Petitions of more than 30,000 Canadians were gathered. More than a dozen Canadian Bishop publicly denounced it. All 230,000 members of the Knights of Columbus demanded the Morgentaler award be revoked.

A poll showed 56 per cent of Canadians were in opposition and the protest grows. Order of Canada medals continue to be returned in protest. Morgentaler is a man with a history of thumbing his nose at the people of Canada.

Is there anything more precious than life? We need laws to protect all life and that includes the unborn.

I think I am getting ripped off, ignored

Re: Atlantic Lottery Corporation

I feel the Atlantic Lottery Corporation is ripping people off.

I was sent a cheque from ALC congratulating me on winning $4, with no explanation as to how I won it as I entered no contest and sent them no winning tickets for this amount.

I feel the $4 cheque was to keep me quiet about the problem I am having with them regarding tickets I purchased in Woodstock that did not bear a bar code or an agent number.

Also, I was given the runaround by ALC head office when I called and wanted to talk to their security department. I was unable to get through to them.

I really believe there is some kind of a coverup for their not allowing me to speak with their security department.

I am only one of many complaints. I was told it will take at least six weeks for a decision to be forthcoming on my complaint.

Are things so bad at the ALC headquarters that it takes six weeks to investigate the tickets in question?

I would like to see this letter printed in order that the public is aware of what is going on with complaints about their operation procedures.

I would also like to know why it takes so long to get answers to my enquiries about shameful conduct to their customers.

Former governor-general speaks, but should reconsider

Re: Adrienne Clarkson

It is my hope that Adrienne Clarkson would never again be quoted, public or otherwise on any subject because of her words spoken as reported in The Daily Gleaner on June 1 concerning our present Governor-General, Michaëlle Jean.

Clarkson has shown by her remarks in the article that she is a person possessed by jealously and an envious state of mind. Her words were harsh, rude, unworthy and thoughtless.

My words to Clarkson are, go into your house, close your mouth, close and bolt the door - never to be heard from again.

Shame on you!

What's left but rumour?

Re: Loan guarantees to Atcon

The New Brunswick government proposes a bailout for Atcon. Let us sum up the provincial government's statements to the legislature on the matter:

1. "We don't know what to do."

2. "We don't know when to do it."

3. "We won't tell anyone until it is all over."

4. "Trying to find out anything about it is 'rumour and innuendo.'"

When a government gives no information on its proposed actions and/or inactions, what is there but 'rumour and innuendo?'

Does this attitude surprise anyone?

Community support allows us to feed our guests

Re: Editorial called The new hungry published June 16

The Fredericton Community Kitchen would like to share its perspective on this issue of increasing usage of food banks.

The community kitchen serves hundreds of meals every day to needy people in our area.

The staff and volunteers who allow us to provide these meals also notice when newcomers arrive or when old faces reappear at the Kitchen.

Recently, we have heard from some of our guests who have come to this area from other places where their fortunes have taken a turn for the worse.

The support we receive from our gracious community allows us to help these people and all of the other guests who come to the kitchen.

We wish to echo the message raised in the editorial: without this community support we would not be able to offer those who can't make ends meet something to eat.

We thank the community for its continued support and we urge everyone to remember those who are less fortunate during these hard times.

What is it with all the Anti-Choice letters in the paper lately? Is the moon full or are meds getting harder to get or is it just that these people can't wait to force their morality on my body.

David - you have your beliefs and no one should ever have to force you to do anything to your own body that you don't want done. Leave me and other the same respect.

How many cells constitute human life Dave? Sperm and egg? 10 cells, 100 cells? 1000? 10000? Just because something is alive doesn't make it a "fully human life" In fact, the only being in that equation that has a "fully human life" is the woman carrying the cells - she has just as much right to make decisions about her life as the collection of cells within her.

Why dont you work harder at promoting realistic sexual education and promoting condom use and get your head out of the bible and into the real world. Abortion never has and never will go away. Your just forcing it to go where you cant see it - dark alleys.

"Just because something is alive doesn't make it a "fully human life"."

Overly simple. By every genetic and biological description, a fetus is a distinct, unique, individual human life. Calling a fetus a bunch of cells may make it easier to end that human life, but it doesn't make the fetus any less human.
