Four-legged movie stars vie for Fido Awards, the Oscars of the canine world
LONDON - Four-legged screen stars are vying for the Fido Film Awards, billed as the canine equivalent of the Oscars.
Nominees announced Friday include the animated dog stars of Bolt and Up, the titular mutt in Marley and Me and - in a rare non-canine choice - the dapper, George Clooney-voiced Fantastic Mr. Fox.
They are competing for prizes in categories including historical hound, rom-com rover and comedy canine.
Award organizer Toby Rose said the past year had seen "an unprecedented run of dog successes at the international box office."
The Fidos call themselves the world's first international awards for canine screen stars.
The winners will be announced at a Nov. 22 ceremony in London.
Toronto music aficionados hope to cash in on Beatlemania with record auction
TORONTO - Two Toronto-based music aficionados are hoping to cash in on the neverending Beatlemania by auctioning off five unusual records.
Akim Boldireff and Aaron Keele acquired a collection of unique albums from a former Capitol Records employee, who had tinkered with the vinyl printing presses after hours.
Among his creations is an electric-blue vinyl disc with half of the Beatles' Revolver on one side, and half of John Lennon's solo debut Plastic Ono Band on the other.
A special pressing of the Beatles album Love Songs was done in gold with vibrant streaks of other colours.
The records will go up on eBay on Nov. 10.
