Premiere of movie shot in region goes tonight

As the digital-imaging technician on the filming of American Sunset, Michel Guitard got a first-hand look at the footage for the movie.
Now he's anxious to see the finished piece projected onto the big screen at its premiere tonight.
The movie, which was shot locally and stars '80s teen heartthrob Corey Haim and Hartland native Angela Cullins, will be screened at 7 p.m. at Tilley Hall on the University of New Brunswick campus at the opening gala for the Silver Wave Film Festival.
"I'm going to be excited to finally see it," said Guitard, a filmmaker and the technical director for the festival and the New Brunswick Film Co-op.
"I had the footage and I saw quite a bit of it. It looks nice, that's for sure. It had high intensity and it should be an entertaining thriller."
He said he's also anxious to see the work of his New Brunswick colleagues.
The film was made in New Brunswick and 55 New Brunswickers were employed on the crew.
He said local members of the movie crew will see that they can stand proud of their work.
"This is going to show yet again that we in New Brunswick can do this work, have the training to do this work and are doing this work," Guitard said.
He hopes that bodes well for drawing more productions to the region in the future.
Local actor and teacher Wally MacKinnon, who plays a detective in the movie, said he looks forward to seeing the film, and he agrees with Guitard that the region has plenty to offer the movie business.
"We have so much talent here. There's no reason we shouldn't be drawing more productions," MacKinnon said.
"I am really looking forward to it. A lot of New Brunswickers are in it and there's a lot of New Brunswick talent behind the camera."
Tickets are $9 for adults, $8 for students or people over the age of 65. They are being sold at the door.
