HARVEY STATION - Winston Gamblin won the mayor's job by acclamation, but two new faces will be joining him on the three-member village council.

Gamblin has been Harvey's mayor for 13 years and has worked for improvements in the village with a number of different village councils.

In Monday's election, 43 per cent of 268 eligible voters turned out to reinstate Ronnie Goodine as on village council. A mechanic by trade, he has served the community for eight years.

"Over the last few years, we have started in motion some of the projects that are just going to happen this year, so it would be great to see them through to completion," Goodine said before the election.

Floyd Thompson and Richard Corey are the two new council members elected Monday.

Thompson is a semi-retired businessman, and Corey is a civil servant scheduled to retire in February.

Scott Harrington will not be returning to the council table.

Gamblin said that although the newly elected councillors will not be sworn in until June, they will be invited to the council meeting Wednesday to see what council is doing.

Gamblin said a guest speaker at the meeting will address council about cancer statistics and uranium mining, and it will be great to have the new councillors on board.

"We are sorry to lose Scott (Harrington), but we will have some new people and some new energy to tackle the projects in the village," said Gamblin.

Finla tally: Floyd Thompson, 93 votes; Goodine, 85 votes; Corey, 79 votes; and Harrington, 75 votes.
