Chipman mayor ready to work

CHIPMAN - With 16 years of experience on village council, Ed Farris was unopposed in his bid to become mayor.
And he's anxious to begin his new role in the community, which will include working with new people on council.
"I'm looking forward to working with the new council," Farris said Monday night. "We'll be working on getting more businesses and the extra ambulance.
"We'll also continue working on a water supply for the village."
"We're ready to address the concerns of the people in the community," he said. "Council meetings are open to the public, and we welcome visitors. I'll try to be available as much as I can, and the village office is open weekdays as well."
Ten candidates were in the race for the four councillor-at-large seats, with 55 per cent of the 1,143 eligible voters casting ballots.
Incumbent Robin Wasson led the contest with an unofficial total of 471 votes. Thomas Gillett, vice-principal at Chipman Forest Avenue School, was second with 388 votes. Incumbent Carol Boyd won a council seat with 280 votes, as did retired government worker Keith West with 276.
