Pedestrian in critical condition

The condition of a pedestrian struck in a downtown crosswalk has worsened to critical.

The 25-year-old man, a university student from Digby, N.S., underwent surgery in Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday for serious head injuries.

He was struck around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of York and Brunswick streets.

Police report the man's family was travelling to Saint John to be by his side.

A driver faces a charge of failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
