
Reps over Kats in girls' hockey

It was Cites des Jeunes Republicans of Edmundston defeating Fredericton High School DQ Lady Black Kats 6-2 in west conference girls AAA high school hockey action Saturday at the Lady Beaverbrook Rink.
Scoirng two goals each to pace CDJ were Tanya Martin and Karine Martin. Christine Michaud and Karine Nadeau had the other goals past FHS goaltender Isabelle Ouelette. Christina Couturier added four assists for the winners.
Scoring for FHS were Layna Moore and Shannon MacDonald. Moore had an assist on the MacDonald goal. Julie-Michelle Lee tended goal for CDJ.
In boys AA high school hockey action in Grand Falls, Ecole Sainte-Anne Castors lost twice and tied another at the 28th annual tournament hosted by Thomas Albert Elite of Grand Falls.
The tie was 2-2 against St. Leonard Flammes of Grande-Riviere. Scoring for ESA were Mathieu Coulombe and Kevin McCarthy. Samuel Gagnon and Jason Martin scored for the Flammes.
ESA lost its opening game 9-1 to Aux Quatre Vents of Dalhousie Cyclones. Jeremy Doucet led the Cyclones with three goals and two asissts. Maxime Vinet had the lone ESA goal with Eric Morin drawing the assist.
The other game for ESA was a 6-3 loss to Kedgwick of Marie-Gaetane. Billy McQuerry led the way for the winners with four goals and an assist. Marc Rossignol, Maxime Vinet and Kevin McCarthy scored the goals for ESA. Next up for the Castors in a tournament in St. Stephen Nov. 21-23.
N.B.-P.E.I. midget AAA
Fredericton Darcy Simon Canadiens rebounded from a shootout loss to Cornwall, P.E.I. Thunder on Saturday with a 4-1 victory over Charlottetown Islanders in N.B.-P.E.I. midget hockey league action Sunday.
Brett Bernard, Patrick Downe, Dakota Tomah and Dylan Desmeules scored goals for the Canadiens as they improved to 6-6-4. Brett MacDonald had the lone goal for Charlottetown, now 1-13-1 on the season.
Zach Daigle made 22 stops in the Canadiens goal while Derek Arsenault faced 42 shots in the Charlottetown net.
On Saturday, the Canadiens lost 3-2 to Cornwall in a shootout as Brandon Carter scored the goal which proved to be the game winner. Darcy Ashley and Matt Myers had the other goals for Cornwall against Blake Hunter, who faced 40 shots in the Fredericton net.
Scoring for the Canadiens were Desmeules and Bernard. Desmeules also had an assist. Logan Reid made 30 stops in the Cornwall goal. Also Saturday, Saint John Vitos defeated the Islanders 5-4 in a shootout. Jordan Bruce had the game winning goal. On Friday, Saint John edged Moncton Flyers 5-4 in a shootout while Cornwall hammered Miramichi Rivermen 9-2.
N.B. minor midget
Fredericton Remax Caps showed little mercy in a pair of New Brunswick midget AAA development hockey league wins over West Kent Aces on the weekend.
On Saturday, the Caps were 12-3 winners in Shediac and followed that up with a 9-1 victory Sunday at the Aitken Centre.
Scoring goals for the Caps Saturday were Nick Jordan, Brandon Ferris and Dave Brewer in the first period, Peter Trainor, Brad Kilbridge and two by Paul Comeau in the second and Aaron Hood, Comeau, Justin McCarthy-Paul, Trainor and Hood in the final period.
West Kent goals were by Christophe Goguen in the first, Cody MacDonald in the second and Brian Leger in the final frame. Jeremy Gallant faced 59 shots in the West Kent goal while Brandon Legacy was called up to make 14 saves for the Caps.
Caps picked up where they left off Sunday at the Aitken Centre, getting first period goals by Comeau and Hood, second period tallies by Brewer, Hood, Comeau and McCarthy-Paul a pair of third period tallies by Nick Jordan and a singleton by Brewer.
Eric Lantz had the lone goal for West Kent in the first period.
Sebastien LeBlanc faced 45 shots in the West Kent goal while Josh Dufour made 29 saves for the Caps. Next up for the Caps is the Monctonian tournament beginning Thursday. First game is against Pownal, P.E.I. at 8:45 a.m.
Southern N.B. senior
Hilltop Bud Lights were 4-2 losers to the Port City Thrashers in Southern Senior Hockey League action Saturday night in Saint John.
Craig Soke, Ryan Burgoyne, Luc Weatherbie and Luc Cormier scored the goals for Port City, which directed 42 shots at Lights' goaltender Gene Chiarello.
Scoring for the Lights were Pat Olsen and Alex Mollegaard. Lights had 24 shots at Mike Vaughan in the Port City net.
N.B. bantam AAA
District 3 ServiceMaster Clean Caps earned three out of a possible four points in provincial bantam AAA hockey league action on the weekend.
Yesterday, the Caps hammered West Kent Aces 16-1 with Colin Moore scoring four goals to pace the winners and Brandon Connors and Tanner Banks each adding three goals.
Team captain Kent Amall added a pair of goals with single tallies by Matthew Wright, Riley Hughson, Oliver Cooper and Zach Whitlock. Joey Gallant was the only Aces player able to beat Caps goaltender Matt Dacres.
On Saturday, the Caps and Codiac Subways of Moncton played to a 4-4 tie. Moore, Hughson, Whitlock and Alex Lewicki had the goals for the Caps. Daniel Poirier, Erik Lang, Jordan Dickinson and John Kelly scored for Codiac.
Josh LeBrun played goal for the Caps while Alex Collette did the honours for the Subways.
N.B. junior C
Fredericton Falcons got a pair of goals courtesy of Scott McIsaac in shutting out Blacks Harbour Silverkings 6-0 in provincial junior C hockey league action at the York Arena.
Adding a goal and assist each were Colin McIsaac, Brian Dunn and Julien Bellefleur. Jeff McKinley had the other goal. Registering two assists each were Jake Hodges, Marcus Hallett and Mike Sorenson.
UNB women play Devils
It was the FYHA midget Devils defeating the women's club team at University of New Brunswick 5-2 in exhibition hockey action Saturday at the Aitken Centre.
Scoring goals for the Devils were Adam Bishop and Sebastian Tavis in the first period, Brandon Steeves in the second and Mike Purdue scoring a pair of goals in the third period. Justin Charters added two assists.
Scoring the UNB goals were Caitlin Kenny in the second period and Emily Craigen in the third period.
Midget AAA girls
Saturn of Fredericton Red Rebels recorded a pair of victories against Southern Fundy Tide in midget AAA girls hockey action Saturday.
The Rebels needed a shootout to win 5-4. Berni Williams had a pair of goals including the game-winner in the shootout to lead the Rebels.
Samantha Bujold also scored twice for the Rebels with Jenna Scott adding a singleton. Marlee Mousek had three goals for the Tide with Naomi Richardson adding the other. Chelsey Hodges was the winning goalie, besting Sam Burpee.
The Rebels won the second game 6-3 with Heather Brawn scoring four goals to pace the winners.
Brittany Price and Jamie Guislain also scored for the Rebels with Mousek scoring twice for the Tide and Lindsay MacKinnon adding the other. Alysha Manderson was the winning goaltender. Burpee took the loss in the Tide goal.
