Rainy forecast wipes out racing at Speedway
The forecast of rain prompted officials at Speedway 660 to postpone action in the Maritime Pro Stock Tour Parts for Trucks 100 Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, the second week in a row racing has been cancelled at the Geary oval. Admission to next Saturday's card, called FanFest 2009, is free. Tickets are available at several Fredericton locations, including Riverview Ford Lincoln on Hanwell Road, RV World at the Lincoln Big Stop, Coast Tire ,Coast Tire locations on Prospect and Wilsey Road, Peterbilt New Brunswick on Gillis Road, O'Leary Pontiac Buick GMC on Hanwell Road and Maclean's Sports on Union Street.
FDSA U18 Caps post road victory
Jeff Smith, Dylan Hughes, Eric McGarry and Peter Reimer each scored single goals and Marc Gagnon provided shutout goaltending as the FDSA Canadian Tire Caps blanked North-West 4-0 in U18 Premiership League soccer play Saturday. .
Stingers sweep U12 soccer twinbill
The FDSA MacTavish's Source for Sports Stingers posted a doubleheader sweep over Kings County in U12 Division 1 soccer action Saturday. In the first game, Mariam Bagnah had three goals and Abbie LeBlanc and Danika Lefebvre scored singles, with Mary Cronin supplying shutout goaltending. In thesecond game, Lefebre had the hat trick, with Danielle Jewett, Luisa Schwarz, Maggie Kileel and Nikki Doyle scoring the singles. Leah Nyson and Ashley McLaughlin replied for Kings County.
FDSA U14 boys blast Codiac
The FDSA boys U14 Premiership squad steamrollered visiting Codiac to the tune of 15-0. Louis Richard led the way with three goals while Tyler Bryden, David Itoafa, Dren Zajmi and Jose Rodriguez each had a pair of goals. Val Price, Marc-Andre Manuel and Greg Young had the other goals. FDSA Harvey Studios Team #2 picked up a pair of shutout victoryes in Division 1 Boys U12 soccer action Saturday. In the first gam, LeLand Morehouse and Gabriel Rodriguez scored the goals and Alex Fullerton and Noah Horwood split the shutout in a 2-0 win over the St. Stephen Saints. In the second game, Horwood and Fullerton were again perfect in the net and Chris Montgomery and Cameron Caissie had the goals in a 2-0 shutout of Sussex.
LeBlanc wins two titles at junior tennis event
Zach LeBlanc of Dieppe won both the U-14 and U-16 titles at the Fredericton Junior Tennis Tournament at Wilmot Park Sunday.
LeBlanc beat Nicholas Dempsey of Nackawic 6-2, 6-4 to win the U-14 title and beat Rene Comeau of Fredericton 7-6 and was leading 3-2 when Comeau defaulted. Comeau won the U-18 boys crown over Colby Craig 6-2, 6-1. In U-12 boys play, Hielke Moore of Fredericton beat Cedric Rupa of Fredericton 6-2, 6-4. Gorjana Barudzija of Fredericton defeated Anastassia Boychuk of Fredericton 6-3, 6-3 to win the U-14 girls. Katarina Kostovic of St. Stephen won the U-16 girls, 6-1, 6-4 over Julia Boychuk of Fredericton.
