Fredericton's Isabelle Miles, former team captain of the women's soccer team at University of New Brunswick, has been named one of eight Desjardins Top Eight Academic All-Canadians by Canadian Interuniversity Sport Monday.

The top male and female are named from each of the four Canadian University conferences.

Miles earns the Atlantic University Sport by virtue of her skill as a member of the UNB soccer team, earning rookie of the year honours in 2005 and conference MVP in 2008. She was also named an AUS all-star on two occasions, in 2006 and 2008, and led the Reds to an AUS women's championship berth in 2006.

Along with her athletic prowess, Miles earned CIS Academic All-Canadian status in each of her four years at UNB, maintaining a perfect 4.3 grade point average in the 149 credit hours she passed in biochemistry.

She was recipient of the James Bayer Memorial Scholarship for excellence in academics, athletes, leadership, sportsmanship and citizenship in 2009. The Award is considered the most prestigious award offered annually by the AUS. Miles graduated last spring and is currently attending medical school at the University of Ottawa.

Earning the male designation from the AUS is Saint Mary's Huskies' hockey player Chris Morrison of Cambridge, Ont.

Morrison has been an assistant captain with the Huskies for the past two seasons.

During that span, the Huskies won 40 of 56 regular season games. He was voted the team's unsung hero, best defensive defenceman and most dedicated player.

Academically, Morrison has earned All-Canadian status for the past three years with a grade point average of 4.05 in 96 credit hours with honours in criminology.

Among the awards he's received from Saint Mary's are the Alumni Leadership Award, the Mike Kelly Memorial Scholarship as well as Academic Achievement Awards two consecutive years.
