Stanley playing host to district soccer

Four teams vie for the Hatheway & Instrum district 18 middle school varsity boys soccer championships scheduled for today at Stanley High School. Competing teams include Devon Middle School, Devon Park, Stanley and McAdam Middle School. Action begins at 1 with Stanley taking on Devon Park; Devon Middle plays McAddam at 2:10. Consolation game goes at 3:10 followed by the championship game at 4:10.

MacDonald named top N.B. soccer referee

Dave MacDonald of Hanwell is this year's recipient of the John A. Smith Award as referee of the year by Soccer New Brunswick. He was chosen by the association's board of directors. Formal recognition for the various award winners is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 14 in Oromocto beginning at noon.

Colpitts earns spot at national camp

Soccer goaltender Dayle Colpitts of Fredericton has been invited to attend a two-week training camp for the national women's team being held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Nov. 3-13. Colpitts earned the berth by her play at the U20 team tryout camp held in El Paso, Texas. She played the second half of a match against Mexico in exhibition play and didn't allow a goal.

Red Bombers lose to Raiders in AFL

Moncton Raiders outlasted the UNB Fredericton Red Bombers 35-26 in the final regular season meeting between the Atlantic Football League clubs on the weekend. With the loss, the Red Bombers end the regular season at 1-3. The Raiders, now 1-2, are in Saint John Saturday to battle the Seawolves (3-0) at 6:30 p.m. at Millidgeville Field to close out the AFL regular season. The league semifinal between the Bombers and Moncton goes Nov. 14.

Wildcats post wins in mini girls hoops

Fredericton Wildcats recorded a pair of wins in Fredericton YMCA mini A girls basketball action. Wildcats defeated Kennebecasis Slammers 27-19 and Sussex Classics 34-32. Sussex got past Slammers 50-25 in the other matchup. No scoring particulars were reported.

The latest results in the Marysville seniors mixed bowling league were: women's high single and no mark: Carol Dickeson, 127 and 84; high triple: Judy Urquhart 297; men's high single: Don Cook 126; high triple: Fred Allen 336; high no mark: Leslie Dickeson 92.
