Hockey Lions put the claws to Reps

Kyle Crawford had four points including three goals and Matt Carter also had three goals as Leo Hayes High DQ Lions pasted Cites des Juenes Republicans 10-0 in west conference boys AAA high school hockey action in Edmundston on Saturday.

Recording the shutout was Matt Dacres.

Scoring single goals for Leo Hayes which led 2-0 after one and 6-0 after two were Brandon Ferris, Jim Keilty, Jordan Kenny and Riley Hughson. Lions play arch-rival Fredericton High School Black Kats Wednesday night at the LBR.

It was Aux Quatre Vent Cyclones of Dalhousie beating Blackville High Golden Eagles 7-5 in north conference boys AA high school hockey action.

Jeremy Doucet had two goals and three assists to lead the Cyclones while Matthew Vienneau and Lee Levesque each added two goals and Jeremy Pelletier chipped in with a single marker for the winners.

Morgan Hallihan had a goal and two assists to pace the Eagles while Jordan Hallihan, Eldon Duffy, Grattan Hogan and Corey Hogan added single goals. Eagles were outshot, 54-41.

High school girls

Jamie Guislain scored four goals lifting Fredericton High School Lady Black Kats to an 8-3 win over Southern Victoria Vikings of Perth Andover in west conference girls AAA high school hockey action on the weekend.

Stephanie Carr added a pair of goals for the Lady Kats with singles to Layna Moore and Darby Amos. Scoring goals for Southern Vic were Stephanie Roach, Olivia Perley and Lindsay Everett.

In other action, the Leo Hayes McKinley Builders Lady Lions were 3-2 winners over Woodstock Thunder in Woodstock Sunday night. Kahli Estey, Karley Barton and Jillian Ward had the goals for the Lady Lions. Sarah Ryder and Alyssa McLean scored for Woodstock.

The lady Lions play Rothesay Netherwood in exhibition action tonight in Saint John.

N.B. junior B

Fredericton Office Interiors River Cats routed Port City Ice Dawns 9-3 in provincial junior B hockey league action on Sunday.

Marcus Hallett scored three goals to pace the winners with Robbie Weale adding a pair of goals. Harry Martin, Scott Munn, Justin Brawn and Drew Murray had the other goals for the River Cats. Jared Braun played goal. No scoring information was provided for the Ice Dawns.

On Friday, the Cats were tough luck 3-2 losers to Blacks Harbour Silver Kings at the Tri-County Complex in Fredericton Junction.

Matt Morehouse scored the winning goal in the shootout for the Kings with earlier goals by Greg Buchanan and Josh Patterson. Scoring both goals for the River Cats was Hallett.

Southern senior

Matt Seymour had four points including a pair of goals leading Nackawic Hawks over Saint John AQ Molson Thunder 7-3 in Southern N.B. senior hockey league action Saturday in Saint John.

Luke Madill, Joel Leitner, Edan Welch, Matt Foster and Kyle Gailey had the other goals for the Hawks, with Gene Chiarello getting the win in goal with 28 stops. Ryan Lavine, Mike Neil and Josh Moore scored for the Thunder. Matt Maillet made 42 saves in a losing cause.

Hawks were also 4-3 winners over St. Stephen Seahawks in overtime. Seymour, Welch, Leitner and Jamie Moser with the overtime winner at 2:01 had the goals for Nackawic while Adam Nelson scored twice for St. Stephen. Jeff MacAulay had the other goal. Martin Speer made 61 saves in the Hawks goal while Nick Nozzolillo was called upon to make 22 saves for St. Stephen.

Rene Goguen had two goals and Steve Holland a singleton leading Tri-County Thrashers over Blacks Harbour 3-1. Mike Vaughan was the winning goaltender with 35 saves. Kyle McAllister had the lone goal for Blacks Harbour. Aaron Molnar made 33 saves in a losing cause.

Pee wee AAA

Fredericton Sunbury Transport Canadiens went 3-0 in round-robin play before losing 6-0 to Halifax Hawks in semifinal action at the Bluewave Energy pee wee AAA hockey Challenge Cup in Dartmouth, N.S. on the weekend. On Saturday, they posted 7-1 and 3-0 victories to finish up the round-robin.

Daniel Bertrand had three goals and two assists in the 7-1 win over Sydney Steelers. Malcolm Arseneau had two goals and an assist for the Canadiens while Matt McInnis and Dylan Breau added single tallies. Connor O'Brien had three assists. Josh Simpson stopped 18 shots for the winners.

Logan Johnston, Patrick Thompson and Bertrand had the goals in a 3-0 win over South Shore Remparts. Simpson made 21 saves to record the shutout. There were no scoring details provided in the semifinal loss to Halifax. Jeremy Wasson faced 41 shots in a losing cause.

District 3 Caps also participated in the Bluewave tourney and finished 1-1-2. The victory was 6-2 over Yartmouth Mariners with Logan Estey, Garrett Humble, Jake Vance, Sam Cameron, Sam Jeffrey and Adam Crowe scoring the goals for the winners. Ty Duffus had a pair for the Mariners.

Ties were 2-2 against Pictou County Crushers with Estey and Vance scoring for the Caps and Lane Cormier and Chance MacDonald replying for the Crushers. The other tie was 2-2 against Sackville Flyers with Humble and Ryan Tompkins scoring for the Caps and Chris McSweeney and Matthew Gallant replying for the Flyers. The loss was 2-1 to TASA Ducks of Halifax. Vance had the Caps goal while Matthew Bryant and Logan MacLellan replied for the Ducks.

Caps host Miramichi Rivermen in regular league action Saturday at 2:30 in Fredericton Junction and West Kent Aces Sunday morning at 11 am at the York Arena.

Midget AAA girls

Fredericton Tommies made short work of the Northern Stars 5-1 in provincial midget AAA female hockey action Saturday at the Aitken Centre.

Berni Williams had a goal and two assists to pace the Tommies. Adding a pair of goals was Sam Bujold. Taylor Dale and Woodstock's Tory Kuhn completed the Tommies scoring.

The only goal for the Stars came via Christina Kelly in the first period, breaking the shutout attempt of Chesley Hodges. Dominique Larrivee played goal for the North Stars. Tommies face Moncton Rockets on Saturday night in Moncton.
