Lion's Club Wild grab silver medals

The Fredericton Midget Competitive Lion's Club Wild won the silver medal this past weekend at the Cap-Pelé Minor Hockey Association Tournament.

The team went 4-0 defeating Cap-Pelé, Sackville, Rogersville and Kennebecasis Valley before losing 6-0 in the final to the defending provincial champions, Grand Lake Wild. Fredericton opened with a 3-0 win over Cap-Pele behind Alex Stewart's shutout goaltending. Jordan Hutton's two goals sparked the Lion's Club Wild to an 8-2 win over Sackville. Nicholas Sandy, Eric Davis, Logan Richard, Jason Hearn, Cody Whitlock and Jon Connolly added a goal apiece.

Colter Wiggins and Hearn both scored twice to lead Fredericton to a 7-4 win over Rogersville. Josh Campbell, Connolly and Taylor Milliea rounded out the scoring.

The Wild advanced to the final with a 1-0 shootout win over KV. Milliea tied the shootout and Adam Marion buried the winning goal.

Eric Douglass played very strong between the pipes, especially in the shootout when he faced nine shooters from KV.

Woodstock JV Thunder hosting tip-off tourney

The Woodstock Quiznos Thunder junior varsity boys basketball team will be hosting a tip-off tournament Friday and Saturday at Woodstock High.

Sussex and Rothesay meet Friday at 6:30 p.m., followed by Woodstock and Moncton High at 8:15 p.m.

Saturday's schedule includes Moncton-Sussex at 8:30 a.m., Rothesay-Woodstock at 10:15 a.m., Rothesay-Moncton at 12:30 p.m. and Woodstock-Sussex at 2:15 p.m.

The Thunder improved to 3-4 with a 68-52 win over the host Oromocto JV Blues. Michael Hillier tossed in 23 points and Kaiden Strohm 11 for the Thunder, up 33-28 at the half.

Nathaniel Burlock replied with 27 points, Andrew Sharkey 15 and Kyle Carr 10 for OHS.

Petrie leads Black Kats in junior boys hoops

Andrew Petrie had 17 points leading Fredericton High School Black Kats over Carleton North Stars 109-29 in west conference junior boys AAA high school basketball action.

Weston Durling added 14 points for the Kats with James Connors adding 13 more. Nick Crain had 11 points in a losing cause. Kats led 63-20 at the half.

Lady Blue Devils beat RCS Netherwood

Shannon MacFarlane swished 27 points to spark the Stanley Lady Blue Devils to a 68-63 victory over RCS Netherwood in AA girls basketball play.

Alison Bartlett and Lacee Thomas chipped in with eight points apiece for the Lady Blue Devils, who led 39-38 at halftime. Anna Simmons countered with 20-point for RCS Netherwood while Goelyn McMackin netted 15 and Taylor Cooper 10.

Mama's Boys prevail over Team Wilson

Marcus Beasley had 15 points and Sean O'Brien chipped in with 11 points leading Mama's Pub Mama's Boys over Team Wilson 73-70 in city and district intermediate men's basketball action. Mike Bonnar led Team Wilson with 21 points while Andy Dickinson chipped in with 16.
