An 'Engine of the Year' award for Porsche
Published Thursday July 2nd, 2009

Porsche has proudly announced their success at the International Engine of the Year Awards.
For over a decade, this prize has been awarded by the British specialist journal "Engine Technology International" for outstanding engine characteristics.
This year, their award went to the German performance automaker's 3.8 liter flat-six cylinder engine. Available in the 911 Carrera S models, the direct-injected powerplant gets an 8.5 percent power boost compared to the outgoing mill.
In spite of increased performance figures, engineers have managed to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by over 13 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
The award-winning engine generates 385 horsepower and can propel the 911 Carrera S to over 185 miles per hour. In the process, Porsche says it'll average fuel consumption of just over 10L / 100km, or about the same as the average mid-sized family sedan.
